The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.

The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Season of Dominance

Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 match record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.

She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
