The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.

During an event for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.

“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.

“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”

In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.

“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.

“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”

Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.

However, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”

He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.

Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.

Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.

National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.

At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”

The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
