The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
