Six Individuals Detained After €12M Armed Raid on Gold Refining Lab in France

Six armed perpetrators using military-grade weapons detonated charges to force entry into a gold refining laboratory located in Lyon, France, resulting in minor injuries to five staff members during described as the most recent prominent broad daylight robbery to occur in France.

The daring raid took place on Thursday late morning, with police forces swiftly apprehending the alleged criminals and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth 12 million euros (£10.5 million), officials reported.

Five employees of the gold refining company sustained minor injuries due to the explosion, and three of them were transported to hospital for examination, the regional prefecture announced. Twenty-eight workers were at the location when the thieves struck.

The suspects, believed to be career criminals, were taken into custody soon afterwards in the neighboring community of Vénissieux, France, authorities revealed.

A woman involved who participated in the raid was taken into custody as well, a police source indicated.

“Six people who employed explosive devices in a raid against a metals processing plant in Lyon were apprehended red-handed,” the nation's interior minister declared on social media, commending law enforcement for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were recovered as well.

The raid happened as authorities on that Thursday detained five further people, among them a key figure, in relation to this month's brazen Louvre museum robbery.
