In excess of 36,000 people have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan area eastern part of Darfur beginning Saturday, according to the UN's migration agency.

The important central zone separating the country's Darfur areas and the Khartoum-Riverine region has over recent weeks become the newest conflict zone in the extended civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the paramilitary forces.

Substantial Displacement Statistics

An estimated 36,825 people fled five districts in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, as reported by the International Organization for Migration.

The individuals, mainly traveling by foot, traveled to Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently housing over 652,000 refugees.

Increased Military Presence

Residents of North Kordofan on Monday noted a heavy surge in both RSF and army deployment across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both armed factions are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a critical supply and command base that connects Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," stated an RSF member in a recently distributed video declaration.

Area Citizens Detail Safety Fears

A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, stated that the number of RSF vehicles had grown considerably since the group's capture of El Fasher.

"We ceased visiting our farms, concerned about confrontations," the local explained.

Another inhabitant, who asked to remain unnamed for security reasons, also indicated that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.

Global Warnings and Requests

A senior UN official expressed concerns last week about "widespread abuses" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The official alerted to patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.

The church leader on Sunday urged an prompt truce and the creation of aid passageways in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's diplomatic representative to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and announced that the Sudanese government would not discuss with the armed faction.

The diplomat further urged the global community to designate the group as a terrorist organisation.
