Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
