Throughout the season, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced the overwhelming tension.

However on Thursday night, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.

From nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the winnings.

Soon, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.

In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking outcome that went viral and made him tearful.

"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."

"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "It's all right."

Online platforms immediately exploded with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.

"There could not have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."

His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.

The comedian's evolution from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.

But his win still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.

"The idea of Alan, of all people, executing an expert performance in deception felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."

On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained why no one had ever really suspected him.

"Alan could have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," one participant said.

"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.

The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.

"I'd like to participate once more... I don't think it would be successful a second time!"

The final episode was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. There was an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.

Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' experience in the game.

As ever, the comedian gave us unforgettable quotes.

"Let's face it, I started this game as something of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I thought."

Meanwhile, a different player commented that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than playing for a national team", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.

Early on of the finale, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.

The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.

However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. What a look.

Next up was the challenge, with the final players boarding a train named - naturally - The Traitors Express.

This task saw them destroying portraits of former contestants. Have sympathy for one participant who was hit in the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.

Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.

Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't betray him," stated a player, while their partner just giggled.

And one did stick to his promise. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for most of the game, the other still received the majority elimination votes.

The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."

Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.

"I did NOT want that player to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.

"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," wrote a different viewer.

But there was no time to dwell on their elimination. Before long, the game reached the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.

The last players stood over the ceremonial fire. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.

A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who turned against them.

"This pains me to be betrayed last minute like that," said the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.

Finally, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.

One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the game. So did a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who did the same - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.

For observers, the moment where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they said.

Happily, the winner quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy the moment.

"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and here I am a winner," he said.

And he even made light of the memorable elimination - his close ally in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.

"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.

The recent episodes of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did all happen. And we will miss it.
